Mort is quite the popular loved horse that has an army wanting to following him through his post track career. Long steoy short he retired from racing last winter. I briefly listed him and then his owners decided they were going to turn him out for the winter and bring him back in the spring and make him a pony. Unfortunately in the time he was turned out he was NOT cared for to their expectations and when they went to get him they were shocked, angry, and etc.
They took him back into the track extremely thin, cared for him and got him to a good weight where they could start working on using him as a pony... unfortunately they just dont have enough time to make it work right now and he was sitting more than being used bc they already have enough trained ponies going and theyre very busy.
I thought he would make a good step up horse for my 8year old daughter as a barrel horse so I brought him to the farm, but honestly he is just a little too much horse for her under saddle and I dont want to risk knocking her confidence. She can handle him 100% fine on the ground. Would be great for a good riding teen, small adult. He wpuld be a REALLY COOL barrel horse prospect or a cow horse and has already had a western saddle on him.
His only vice, he cribs. He does not crib through a collar at all.
Turns out with other horses, both gelding and mare. Easy keeper, honestly eats anything in front of him. Quiet and clean in the stall. He was barefoot while turned out and was comfortable, I chose to put front shoes on bc I have a lot of rock on my trails.
He is a really cool horse, has been really well loved and would be an exceptional project for someone. He IS ELIGIBLE still for RRP and we would love to see him there!
