Joe retired in 2022 and went somewhere briefly before landing in my barn. We noticed immediately he had pretty thin soles so we removed his shoes and put him in boots to give his feet a break and allow him to grow healthy foot. He is currently on turnout 100% barefoot and is comfortable (his field is not rocky with a ton of terrain) he is also riding barefoot but he is going to need front shoes with anything outside of arena work. I do feel he needs a few more months to allow his feet to grow before putting shoes back on him, but that's just my opinion.
Joe is easy to handle, he is low man in the herd on turn out and can go out with both mares and geldings. He has NO vices.
He has shown no behavioral issues under saddle and I think with some extra miles could easily fit into a lesson program with his disposition and his size will accommodate most people (not to big, not too small) he is stout as they come and built like a brick house.
We have ridden him in a neck stretcher to get him rounding his back and engaging his hind end and core on his trot a work and he has done wonderful. Canter is still a bit quick but the balance is coming and as it continues that's when we start asking them to slow (otherwise they think they need to break into a trot bc the turns in my arena at each end are a bit tight)
He is such a good sport and is a quick learner. Definitely not a horse to pass up if you're looking for an all around type!!
Video shows him being ridden by an amateur rider working on her confidence with different horses.
